this i learned from a saltwater fisherman that posted it on a another forum and i just had to try it and it works great best hook sharpener i ever used . and the cheapest

take a chain saw file (Oregon) 5/32 come 2 in a pack for bout $3.77 you can break (1) in half and use both pieces or use 2 files but tape both pieces together real tight on each end and you have it a darn good hook sharpener.

Went to Vicksburg today for a little fishing and it turned into a good day.

Started out catching 5 skipjack off'n the end of a dike. Next stop was a cut bank where I know of a mussel bed. Caught 3 blues - 9 lbs, 11 lbs and 33 lbs. Next stop was another cut bank where I know of a mussel bed. Caught 2 blues - 32 lbs and 47 lbs. All these fish were weighed with my spring scale and their weight was not guessed at. All the fish had big ole bellies and you could feel the mussels in them. Just wondering ...

I think one of the most important tools you can have on a catfishing boat is your anchor, especially if you are fishing in heavy current, here is my anchor, I got the idea from Cactus Bob,, it is a piece of 2 inch pipe with 3/8 rebar welded to the end of it, with 4 feet of 3/8 chain to help lay it down at an angle,, it is light weight and will hold in very fast current and if it gets hung up, you can crank your motor up and pull forward and the rebar bends easily and the anchor will come loose,but ...

most of the time i hang my net on junk and tear beyond what i want to try and repair so i try and keep a new net in the boat at all times usually buying 3 to 5 nets a year but once in a while the net i using or when i buy a cheep net that is very stiff i borrow a 1/2 cup of wifes fabric softener from laundry room and put it in a bucket add about 1 1/2 gallon of water and drop the mono. net in over night , it sure softens up the mono net and makes it more easy to throw and it smells ...

I finally succumbed to cabin fever and had to make a trip to Richmond after blue cats.

My luck dictates that I must fish in whitecaps with wind so strong I could not hold anchor. Probably the lowest tide of the year and wind and current making baits move after being cast. Man was it ever great to be out catfishing!!

Now I am anticipating warm water and flathead movement.

Just got back from doing a little skipjack fishing and thought I would give ya'll a report. Three if us drove up to the Pickwick dam on Thursday and spent 2 hours fishing that afternoon. We were back Friday morning at daylight and fished until 8:00AM. (total of about 4 hours fishing) Catching was kinds slow and we had to quit when we filled all our icechests up. Building a new rod from an old rod

I am attempting to rebuild an old rod that Ive had for along time, it is an 8 foot two piece rod,, it is too long for me and has too few guides,,only 4 guides, so I cut the tip off 6 inches and cut the butt off 12 inches,, making it a 6' 6" rod, I plan on painting the blank a red color and goin back with 8 stainless steel guides with silver metallic underwraps and black guide wraps and a stainless tip top, 10 inch rear grip, aluminum real seat, and an 8 inch fore grip,,,

Me and Cactus Bob got to witness 35 barges that broke loose from a tow boat and they were goin down the river out of control, we watched them for about 2 hours and the barges were spread out over atleast ten miles when we left the river and the tow boats werent even close to catchin all of them!

Finally got me a nice buck today y'all. I'll put the pictures up tomorrow, but he was a 19 inch inside spread 8 point. 220 lbs on the hoof, and I shot him at 75 yards with a 45/70 Handi-Rifle. Not a monster, but, as he's the first deer taken off of my "big buck" place (there's bigger ones over there), he's going on the wall!

Mississippi fishing laws

I caught 4 blues,, a 4,6,and two 10's,, I thought it was neat catchin two fish the same weight,lol, caught em all on skipjack steaks, they werent touchin the heads today,, I did get a chance to throw my anchor because one of those dang red top tow boats got way too close!

Weekend fishing trip

Made a trip to Vicksburg Saturday and managed to pull 6 blues from the deep waters of the Mississippi River. The big fishes of the day were a 21 and a 29 pounder. Since the other 4 were between 8 and 6 pounds I said to myself " Self, these 4 fish sure would make some mighty fine eating" so thats what I done. While dressing these fish I discovered that 3 of them were plumb full of corn and milo - and we were fishing miles from a grain elevator. (and they done stopped loading grain months ...
