Today's fishing trip

Went to Vicksburg today for a little fishing and it turned into a good day.

Started out catching 5 skipjack off'n the end of a dike. Next stop was a cut bank where I know of a mussel bed. Caught 3 blues - 9 lbs, 11 lbs and 33 lbs. Next stop was another cut bank where I know of a mussel bed. Caught 2 blues - 32 lbs and 47 lbs. All these fish were weighed with my spring scale and their weight was not guessed at. All the fish had big ole bellies and you could feel the mussels in them. Just wondering ...

Anchors

I think one of the most important tools you can have on a catfishing boat is your anchor, especially if you are fishing in heavy current, here is my anchor, I got the idea from Cactus Bob,, it is a piece of 2 inch pipe with 3/8 rebar welded to the end of it, with 4 feet of 3/8 chain to help lay it down at an angle,, it is light weight and will hold in very fast current and if it gets hung up, you can crank your motor up and pull forward and the rebar bends easily and the anchor will come loose, but ...

Coach's Rig

This is a rig that Coach showed me how to use while drift fishing. I've used it ever since for all tightlining. He rigs his with the tube and also adds a cork (sometimes) to the tube. I prefer to fish it without the straw but in side by side comparisons, the rig with the tube tends to catch more fish.

Hi Ya'all! My bro, Gene, and I went up to the Flint River below Bainbridge, Ga., early this morning to try and get some flatheads. We launched the boat at daylight (Gene had already caught our bream up at the "farm" yesterday afternoon). So, we had the right bait, eh. They wern't havin' any of our live bream even though we drifted and anchored in and around some pretty deep holes and runs (35-50 feet) along certain sections of the river channel. We tried drifting slip float ...

Hello out there in Kitty Land! Well, now, wait a minute - some guys really "work" at this catfishing thing, right?
Hello everybody!

My name is Reggie and I hail from Tallahassee, Fl. At the tender age of 60 (and now retired from any real work), I have been fishing for catfish most of my life. I really enjoy the challenges that diversified catfishing is all about, especially fishing in new environments and for new catfish species - like the Flathead. I realize many of you out there are "old hands" at fishing for this flathead kitty, but my fishing partner and I are really newbee's to the sport ...

Question on different riggins

I am or feel like I am new to the skill of catching catfish. Here in Tenn. I am told that you need to fish with slip bobbers to keep from getting tangled up so much so what my question is: what type of riggin would you suggest? I have seen a couple of post on different types of riggins and would like to have some input on this if anyone could. Thanks

I finally succumbed to cabin fever and had to make a trip to Richmond after blue cats.

My luck dictates that I must fish in whitecaps with wind so strong I could not hold anchor. Probably the lowest tide of the year and wind and current making baits move after being cast.
Finally got me a nice buck today y'all. I'll put the pictures up tomorrow, but he was a 19 inch inside spread 8 point. 220 lbs on the hoof, and I shot him at 75 yards with a 45/70 Handi-Rifle. Not a monster, but, as he's the first deer taken off of my "big buck" place (there's bigger ones over there), he's going on the wall!

Flatiator you would be one to know the answer this. Is it legal to chum at any public fishing area in Mississippi? Have you used this technique before? If so what did you use? Does it help attract the fish to one area? Also do any of you have a favorite on making your own bait the dough balls are what have you?
